The Deputy Minister Nguyen Trong Dam attended workshop on Directions for Poverty Reduction Program in 2011 – 2020 period

On 25 May 2010, in Hanoi, the workshop on Directions for Poverty Reduction Program in 2011- 2020 period was jointly organized by Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the United Nations Representative Office in Viet Nam.

 “In the coming time, the poverty elimination does not mean giving houses, motorbikes, television sets… but means giving people a way to escape poverty” – this is the constant idea of the attenders. At the same time, representatives of each entity gave out reasons for heading the target of facilitating the poor especially households in remote areas and ethnic minority to escape poverty sustainably and proactively access public social services gradually…

At this workshop, the contributive and discussed ideas were focused on 3 main parts:
 Firstly: Overall assessment on the current poverty reduction programs. Therein based on the assessment researches on the existing poverty reduction programs, the delegates focused on stating the limitations and problems as well as recommending solutions on designing programs and policies of poverty reduction in the coming time.
Secondly: Directions for poverty reduction in future and the participation of international organizations in designing poverty reduction program. For this part, the delegates discussed and set out the main principles in designing the poverty reduction framework for 2011 – 2020 period and the basic principles in designing the 135 Program for 2011 – 2015 period, defining the position and connection with the components of the general poverty reduction program. Besides, directions for new countryside program were also discussed and the role, position and connection with the above components were defined.
Thirdly: Questions raised and answers given by the relevant authorities about implementing the poverty reduction policies at localities as well as about the method to calculate the poverty rate during the past time…

The Deputy Minister Nguyen Trong Dam hosted the question and answer session and discussion session of the Ministries, branches and international organizations.

In the conclusion of the workshop, the representatives of MOLISA, MPI and the United Nations in Vietnam agreed that the poverty reduction strategy of the next period must settle down the macro-economy in order to minimize the systematic risks and limit the inflation, improve the formal and informal social security systems
